Thursday – optional conference activity

Join us for some summer fun at Lake Mission Viejo!  11 – 3pm

Kayaking, Paddle Boarding, Water Bikes, Pedal Boats, Volleyball, Swimming, Playing in the water, Tanning on the Beach, Hanging out with friends…If this sounds fun to you, grab a subway sandwich or other yummy lunch on the way and join your committee hosts at Lake Mission Viejo on Thursday, July 26th from 11:00 – 3:00 for some fun in the sun! ☀️😎 

#1 – RSVP your name to Using the Subject line: “Lake Fun” as we have to add you to a Lake member’s guest list. Limited space is available.
Plan to Meet your Lake Host and your group at the park across from the lake between 10:45-11 am. Directions will be sent to those that RSVP using Event Brite or the link above.  RSVP is required for this event.

If anyone has a volleyball there is a volleyball net and grassy areas for frisbee.  There is some shaded areas on the grass so you don’t have to be on the sand if you don’t want to be.

Note: There is a snack stand and vending machine with drinks to be purchased at the Lake.  There are outdoor showers and changing rooms/bathrooms as well.

Option Two – Non-Hosted Temple Day

Unfortunately Newport Beach and Los Angeles Temple are closed during our conference.  If you are interested in serving at one of our local temples, we encourage you to check out San Diego, Redlands or come to the conference even earlier and bring your passport to visit the Tijuana Temple in Mexico.  Please feel free to post on our Facebook page to coordinate groups of friends that may wish to join you.

5:00 pm Pre-Devotional Dinner @ The Bluffs Shopping Center

Join others for some dinner before the Temple-side Devotional. Popular choices include Chipotle, Panera Bread, Pei Wei, and Jersey’s Mike Subs. Everyone will pay and order separately, and join others after you get your food for mingling in the outdoor seating areas. The Bluffs Shopping Center, located on Bison Ave and MacArthur Blvd, is only a few minutes away from the Newport Beach Stake Center where the Temple side will be.  Note: Shopping Center entrance located on Bison Ave.

7:00 pm Temple-side Devotional @ Newport Beach Stake Center (next door the temple)

All are invited to attend our Kick Off Devotional event for the Orange County Singles Conference.  You do not need a conference ticket to attend.

Our event speaker will be Mark Beecher, Asst. Director of trhe Utah Valley Central Area for LDS Seminaries & Institutes of Religion

Attire: Business or Sunday dress….  Come after work, this is open to all singles whether they have registered for the conference or not.

Insider tip: Newport Beach Temple and Newport Beach Stake Center are adjacent to each other. Please park at the stake center parking lot, there are upper and lower levels of the parking lot.

9:30 pm  Balboa Island – Enjoy an evening walk with new friends – Hosted Conference Activity

Balboa Island and Peninsula — Grab your walking shoes or change into comfy clothes after the devotional.  This event will be hosted by our conference hosts as a way to continue to meet new people. Plan to park on the Peninsula at the Balboa Pier Parking lot. We will give you directions.   Explore the pier then take the Balboa Island Ferry ($1 per person each way) back and forth from the Peninsula to the island and enjoy an evening walk while enjoying the bay views. This approx 2 mile walk takes you around Balboa Island on a paved path. The walk provides great views of the harbor. You may also wish to enjoy the island’s most iconic famous desserts, the Balboa Bar and Frozen Banana. Yum! The local sweet tooth treasures have been mainstays for nearly 75 years, and have been imitated and replicated, including on the hit TV show “Arrested Development.” The tasty treats are dipped in chocolate and covered with a variety of coatings from nuts and sprinkles to cookie crumbs.    Location:  1 Balboa Pier, Newport Beach, CA 92661


9:30 pm Thursday Night Swingin’ the Blues – West Coast Swing Night –  Non-Hosted Event

Atomic Ballroom is a very popular ballroom dance studio that dedicates Thursday nights to a West Coast Swing public dance beginning at 8:30 pm with a dj.  Cost $8.00.  Grab your dance partner and head over to “Swingin’ The Blues” which draws dancers of all ages from all over Southern California.  If you love hip-hop, R&B, top 40, or blues, West Coast Swing is your kind of dance.  Beginners are welcome, everyone dances with everyone. There will not be instruction offered as lessons are held earlier in the evening.  Dancing usually begins about 8:30 – Midnight but starts thinning out at 11 pm.  Atomic Ballroom is kind of hidden in an industrial park near John Wayne Airport, see the map below.
