Want to get out in nature? Come enjoy an awe-inspiring, invigorating morning hike with other singles! This a great way to get to know a smaller group of friends prior to the conference starting.  There are two hikes to choose from — intermediate or beginner level — meaning dirt, uneven paths, some rocks, with some elevation gain. Pay attention to start times as the longer immediate hike meets up earlier at 7:30 am, while the shorter beginner hike meets up at 9:00 am (at different locations).

2 Hikes – Intermediate & Beginner

HIKE 1 (Midsingles friendly) –  Wood Canyon Mathis Loop Trail Hike (in Aliso Viejo) – Intermediate / 6.3 miles

Host: Jake Hailstone (one of our awesome YSA, not from State Farm)

7:00 am – 12:00 pm Meet first at Click-Fil-A to use the restroom or grab a quick breakfast sandwich, if needed at 7:00 am, and then park at Canyon View Park at 7:30 am, adjacent to the Wood Canyon Trail Head. This 6.3 mile loop trail immediate hike is rated as moderate, with an elevation gain of 954 feet.  Bring WATER and snacks.

Other optional Local Singles Activities  (no host ideas)

  • Balboa Island and Peninsula — Explore a one-of-a-kind, man-made treasure, Balboa Island is a gem whether you drive, walk, bike or take the Balboa Island Ferry to the island. Balboa Island’s Marine Avenue is home to chic coastal shops featuring unique nautical designs, stylish beach fashions, art and jewelry. There may be nothing more iconic than the island’s two famous desserts, the Balboa Bar and Frozen Banana. Yum! The local sweet tooth treasures have been mainstays for nearly 75 years, and have been imitated and replicated, including on the hit TV show “Arrested Development.” The tasty treats are dipped in chocolate and covered with a variety of coatings from nuts and sprinkles to cookie crumbs.
  • Fashion Island — Premiere outdoor shopping destination with ocean views located in Newport Beach. Great place to just window shop or get anything last minute before the conference.  If in the Irvine area, Irvine Spectrum is another great outdoor shopping alternative.

Insider tip: Allow your optional activity choice to end by 2pm, so that you have time to rest and get ready for Friday evening’s festivities.

Friday Night “Summer Soirée” @ Coto Valley Country Club in Coto de Caza

Driving tip: Coto Valley Country Club, located within the prestigious gated community of Coto de Caza (referred by some maps as Trabuco Canyon), has two main gates. One on the south side at the end of Oso Pkwy and Coto de Caza Dr. The other gate on the north side next to Rancho Santa Margarita on Antonio Pkwy and Coto de Caza Drive.  Coto Valley Country Club is located on the north side of Coto de Caza. Be prepared once entering Coto de Caza, for no street lights, so it will be very dark after dusk and hard to read street signs, so another reason to arrive early or on time. 🙂  Please follow directions from your phone closely.  Coto Valley Country Club is located past the Dog Park and Polo Club on Via Venado.
